FM22: THE BEAST FROM THE EAST

SG Dynamo Dresden

The 2022-2023 season will see SG Dynamo Dresden back in the The German 3.Liga after suffering relegation from Bundesliga 2. I have been following Dresden closely over a number of years now. They were founded on 12 April 1953 as a club affiliated with the East German police and became one of the most popular and successful clubs in East German football, winning eight league titles

The club were relegated from the 2. Bundesliga to the 3. Liga at the end of the 2019–20 season, but earned immediate promotion back to the 2. Bundesliga by winning the 2020–21 3. Liga, unfortunately returning straight back to the third tier

Although the club’s badge is predominantly red, they use gold and black as their home colours, derived from the official city flag and coat of arms of the city of Dresden.

Dynamo Dresden are the second most successful club in terms of titles won in the now dissolved (1991) East German Championship ( DDR-Oberliga) winning 8 just two behind Berliner FC (Dynamo East Berlin).

The club have reached the Semi Final and Quarter Finals in three European Competitions, European Cup (3 Quarter-finals ), Uefa Cup ( 1 Semi Final and 2 Quarter finals) and the European Cup Winners Cup ( 2 Quarter finals).

Success in recent times is limited with the club yo-yoing between the 3rd (3.Liga) and 2nd tier (Bundesliga 2) just spending 4 seasons in the top tier (Bundesliga) with a best placed finish of 13th place back in the 93/94 season with their last appearance in the top tier in the 94/95 season, some 27 years ago.

Dynamo Dresden play their home games at the Dresden City owned Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion with a capacity of 32,085 giving the club a good foundation to get to the Bundesliga and establish themselves in the top tier.

The clock is ticking towards the end of the game cycle with approximately 3 or 4 months before we see the next edition so after having a bit of a play around with the game and a rest from blogging I thought that I would dip in to the game again using the 2022-2023 updated database courtesy of Sortitoutsi and give Dresden a go in an an attempt to get them in to the Bundesliga.

To be honest I have been inspired by watching a few FM content creators rebuild videos on YouTube with various clubs so I thought let’s give it a go and see what happens over the next few months.
