FM21 : ASTON VILLA (10)

Welcome to the latest blog post covering my FM21 save. The save itself is now in season 9, we are with Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Grealish And The Children Of The Revolution

Club captain 31 year old Jack Grealish finished the season having made 37 appearances scoring 8 goals and having 14 assists to his name averaging 7.21 over the season being voted the fans player of the year and deservedly so. For me Grealish was outstanding playing in the following roles and positions throughout the season. Central Midfield (Deep Lying Playmaker and Mezzala), Left Wing (Winger) and Right Wing (Inside Forward) week after week Grealish lead by example. A leader of a new looking young Villa side playing at an high level.

For a modern-day footballer to average over 80 passes a game and then complete over 95% of said passes is quite extraordinary. But that’s Grealish Villa’s free-wheeling playmaker, whose current form suggests he is by no means slowing down, despite having hit the wrong side of 30. My aim at Villa is to clone Grealish and develop the next Jack Grealish a task that is not easy when you consider the numbers the Villa number 10 is achieving.

I suppose the playing style and the system i have implemented at the Villa let’s a Grealish type player flourish.

The Villa Revolution Deep 442

On the playing side of things we had an excellent season finishing 5th in the Premier League which qualifys  us for the group stage of the Europa League taking the Villa in to Europe.

If you remember at the start of the season it was my expectation to get Villa back in to Europe and we did so by pulling off some great results during the season. The 4-1 win at Anfield in December against the Champions Liverpool was a particular favourite that saw forward Wahid Faghir score a brace. Faghir along with Erik Thijssen both hit the 20 goals mark this season 20 and 26 respectively with Shola Shoretire 9 and Jack Grealish 8 pitching in with a share of goals. Captain Grealish was our assist leader with 14 followed by our full backs Alvaro Fernandez 11 and Kluiverth Aguilar 9 showing their worth in the attacking phase.

Looking Forward

With European Football coming back to the Villa its an exciting time for this young Villa squad. With more of what I will call the old guard leaving the club during the summer I now have my team with the exception of Jack Grealish being the only player over 30 I am looking forward to leading the young Villian’s in to Europe. We made a profit of £33.5m on centre back Billy Koumetio who joins West Ham United after joining us on a free transfer last season. Below are just 4 of the new era of players at the club hoping to take the club to the next level.

A New Era Of Players At The Villa

Off The Field

The board have offered me a new 3 year contract which I am pleased about because unlike my spells in Germany and Holland I have no reason to want to move on yet. Financially we were somewhere in the region of under our wage budget last season by over £400,000 per week and we have in the region of £100m in the transfer budget. The scouting team are scouting around the World for players up to the age of 23 in the hope of unearthing some hidden gems.

The board have also announced that the club will be building a new stadium which should be completed by 2030 with the work starting immediately. The stadium will have an increased capacity of 57,721.

The save is feeling good and I am enjoying it more and more as I am about to start the 8th season already. I have given the blog a fresher look which you may have noticed which I feel is a lot better to navigate with a cleaner looking theme. I am also playing a save with Sampdoria in Italy and may even do a few blog posts on how it is going ect, I am trying to replicate the Boskov era at the club and again I am really enjoying it plus it breaks up the playing of this save which keeps me hungrier for both saves. I don’t think you have to stick to just one save if you don’t want to its down to each individual and personally it stops that FM lull that you sometimes get when you have put everything in to a save. It works for me anyway.

I almost forgot I was named Manager Of The Year 🏆for our achievement this last season ha ha…… I think this will be the last post of FM21 so

My main FM22 save will start in February 2022 and should span 7 or 8 seasons so until then cheers.
